Gibraltar Trip
Spare wheel holder
Page 1 - Page 2 - Page 3
In the last Mag (152) I wrote about going to Gibraltar to complete the European coastline off, North Cape right round to Venice, well that was written well before I decided YES lets go for it. The journey I will be doing starts 13th June from Birmingham. I plan to drive the coastline of France, top of Spain, coastline of Portugal, Spain again and then on to Gibraltar (Orange on Map), Reading up on what is needed when travelling through each country, one thing I hadn't counted on was having to carry a spare wheel plus all the gear to change a wheel at the side of a road, which is required by Spanish law. Inner tubes no good to me in Spain, so I had to devise a way of carrying a spare without it taking the much needed boot space. As I will be camping, I will not be using the tow bar, so using a car Bike holder that I had lying around, I adapted it to carry the spare.
returning up the East coast of Spain, visiting Andorra and after doing the South of France return home via Turin (Italy), Bern (Switzerland), Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium, if time prevails I hope to visit the Bath rally on the Sunday, 3rd of July (return trip is Green line on Map). I am in no rush to get back so if I am a little late, a night in Hastings and then back to Brum. The Hotel in Gibraltar is booked for the 22nd and 23rd June (23rd being my 60th).A local company lathed the Silver center and drilled a hole through it plus they drilled and tapped the holding holes. All done and it didn't look out of place on the Bug. Unfortunately the spare wheel partially covered the Number plate so I needed to find a wheel cover with the number plate on (good old ebay to the rescue). Mmmm I then thought I had better light it up too, so how do I get lights to the very back was the next problem.
