The Saturday morning before the
rally I went
out putting up Bug directions on
lamp posts, this being the 1st of
April I could not resist the chance
of catching a few with an April
fools joke :).
Using the WhatsApp group
set up for the rally I posted a
"Road Closed" picture (I found on
the web)
and text that access to the Tamworth
Cruising Club (TCC) was closed for a
week
to lay a new water pipe.
With everyone looking forward to the
rally I soon got a few replies, "Oh
Blast", "hope they will let us
through", even a "contact the
council and Seven Trent Water". Once
12 noon had passed I let them know
it was an April Fool, Much to
every ones relief. | Not all Bugs made the week as
intended, Bill & Jen's Bug had
issues, however they still attended
every day, getting rides in spare
seats, Jen was my passenger for the
Saturdays long run to Southan
Antiques followed by the short run
on to Shugborough Hall. Glad to say
the sun was out making it a pleasant
day out for all. During the
evening TCC laid on food which was
followed by entertainment from "The
Mustard Band" late into the night.
The raffle (won mainly by a
Nigel) and Whisky bottle roll raised
£151, thanks ladies for organising
it so well and to everyone that
donated prizes. |
Tuesday I dropped off my Pod (for
Karl to use) and John Grieve brought
his Bug in its garage (trailer).
John
then went to Rugby to fetch his and
Stephanie's accommodation for the
week, their canal boat, which took
them a couple of days of slow
cruising to get to
TCC. Wednesday our Northern
friends arrived, Keith getting there
just before me towing the Pond Bug,
with
Sean & Julie, Peter & Shirley, Ron &
Allison arriving soon after. On
the
Thursday they all went
for a road run to the Motorbike
museum near the NEC whilst
I stayed on site welcoming the
ever increasing attendees.
First main Road Run (Sixteen Bugs)
was to The Belfry golf course, the
plan was to hit a few balls on their
driving range, but as it was a bank
holiday, the place was heaving and
no spare slots became available.
We were kindly given a tour by one
of their staff after which we had a
photo shoot in front of the main
entrance. Onward, a short convoy
to
Stotfold Barn Railway a personal
collection of small narrow guage
steam engines,
that has grown into a fantastic
venue
for all ages. Also in attendance
that day was Fuzz Townsend of "Car
SOS" fame who kindly had a group
photo with us all. Back at Camp
the Pond Bug was put on the canal,
after I quick tested it, I let a few
members loose with it, Loz, Ron,
Sean, Keith, Peter, Ivan (who got
lost) and Arron (of TCC) all had a
go and managed to bring it back in
one piece, some handling its
steering better than others.
Friday evening
the brilliant Christine with help
from Andy kindly did us all a great
B-B-Q. After in the clubhouse my
friend Gary Rawlings (aka Scouse)
did us a challenging quiz, this was
followed by Colin's ABBA Music quiz.
