John O'Groats Visit

I have been looking forward to the Scottish rally for some time and I thought to myself while I am so far North I may as well go to the very top whilst I am there. I set off from Birmingham on Wednesday afternoon and stayed overnight at Ron's in Cockermouth Cumbria (206m) Ron left for Scotland with Dave and Dawn earlier in the day, so it was Ron's wife Alison who had to put up with me. I slept in the Pod which I parked just outside Ron's Garage. Up early and left for George & Myra's around 8.30am.
I had to make a stop when I smelt burning rubber, the smell you get when you have no water but the water was ok, turned out to be the rear left mud flap, somehow getting caught by the wheel and ending up on top of the turning tyre. Flipped it back down and a few miles later it did it again, this happened another couple of times before I removed it completely at a service stop. Made it to George and Myra's about 2.30pm (194m), not bad considering I was pulling the Pod and with all the stops. The bridge crosses the Beauly Firth which happens to lead on to Loch Ness, my port of call on the way back. The further North I went the fewer vehicles on the road there was. I saw deer and a house with a grass roof just like Norway and the coastline was great to drive. Stopped for petrol just once on the way up and the garage owner wanted to show me his fathers special project, up a flight of stairs and under a dust cover there was this immaculate Blue Bubble Car (NWS 350) fully restored.
I will leave the story of the rally to George, this is my bit outside of the main event. Anyway come Saturday it was time to go to John O'Groats, my intention was to camp one night somewhere near the top. I brought the small tent I last used on the Malta trip and took everything I could to keep warm. The trip was 232 miles and without the Pod the bug flew, I had to slow down going across the Kessock Bridge at Inverness as gusts of wind blew my little bug around abit.
