I solved it by using a tolly handle (off the type old ladies pull behind them when shopping), thanks Mom for donating your old cart. The handle went round the wheel as if it was made especially for it, it even went through the two Bike holder holding brackets allowing me to bolt it in place too. Some white and red LED lights which pluged into the tow bar electrics finished it off nicely. Job Done! | Tested it on a couple of journeys, the second being the Stratford Festival of Motoring. Pictured is Quentin Willson who is a patron of that event. Glad to say the wheel holder works and lights up as it should. As I am using an alloy for my spare, I have purchased a spacer, just incase the front wheel goes on me. The spacer will only be used in order to reach the next camp site, once there I can fix using an inner tube. I know I could use a front wheel as spare but alloys look better if used. |
I know what you are thinking, the tow bar might not be strong enough for all that journey, well my towing bracket is not only welded to the chassis, it is also bolted to a metal plate within the boot. However just to be on the safe side I will keep the spare in the passenger footwell for any part of the journey that I have no company. | No doubt I will have a few problems on the journey, which I hope I can fix without having to return on the back of a AA wagon. I will keep a day to day diary of the trip, which you can read about in future magazines.
Brief details of the trip will be shown here. |
